Berlin Charlottenburg/Wilmersdorf – assistance dog friendly!

Announcement by the District Mayor on the “Assistance Dog Welcome” Access Campaign

“Not only because of the National Action Plan on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD), but also for the sake of fairness alone, all people with chronic impairments must be enabled to participate in public life and thus to take part in social life in the same way as all other citizens.

Assistance dogs, which include guide dogs for the blind as well as dogs for other disabilities, are of great importance for those affected in this respect. Unfortunately, many people are not aware of this, which is why the assistance dog teams often have to deal with prejudice and refusal of access.

The campaign of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs “Assistance Dog Welcome – Here & Everywhere” aims to raise awareness of the issue and to guarantee people with assistance dogs basic access in all facilities. The District Assembly and the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf District Office expressly support the campaign.”
District Mayor Reinhard Naumann

Mrs Larsen kneels next to the sitting sharp guide dog Chepi, and strokes him. Ms Larsen, a member of the ABSV board, has been a strong advocate for an assistance dog-friendly Berlin Charlottenburg/Wilmersdorf.
The initiator was guide dog owner Silke Larsen, ABSV board member.

The “Assistance Dog Welcome” campaign was made possible by funding from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) and the Aktion Mensch.
